    Pre-College Academic Program

    Mentoring and Readiness for College (M.A.R.C)

    Spring 2015 Pre-College Tutor Application (Deadline: February 4, 2015 at 5 PM)

    Volunteers

    We are pleased that you are considering volunteering with our Pre-College programs. Currently, you can choose from 7 different options through our office. Each of these options will provide you the opportunity to work directly with a multicultural student after school or in the early evening.

    Expectations of Volunteers:

    • Commitment to meet each week with assigned student(s) (25 hours or more per semester)
    • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
    • Engagement during all tutoring and enrichment activities
    • Plan and facilitate at least 1 enrichment activity (varies across sites)

    Work Study Students

    If you would like to request work study in Pre-College Tutoring, please complete the appropriate questionnaire for the year you are interested in serving as a work study student and submit to Financial Aid as soon as possible. Students need to read the information on the site before filling out the questionnaire. Only students who are awarded FWS can complete the questionnaire.


    Expectations of Work Study Students:

    • Commitment to meet each week with assigned student(s) (25 hours or more per semester)
    • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
    • Plan and facilitate at least 1 enrichment activity (varies across sites)
    • Take on additional lead roles (lead tutor, enrichment coordinator, co-pilot, etc.)
    • Timely completion of necessary paperwork (payroll, time sheets, etc.)

    Precollege Summer Programs

    Summer Mentoring, Adventures and Reading Together (S.M.A.R.T)

    Open to all students entering grades 1–8, this program meets for five weeks, two days a week in the afternoons. 

    Mentors will

    • Work alongside multicultural youth
    • Help youth build necessary literacy skills
    • Plan and facilitate interactive enrichment opportunities within the community
    To celebrate the completion of the program, the group will go on a special field trip.

    Mississippi River Adventure (MRA)

    Mississippi River Summer Adventure – Introductory

    GroupThe Mississippi River Summer Adventure – introductory Camp is a residential, week long program for students entering grades 7 through 9. Participants learn elements of math and science developing skills in various areas including team building and outdoor adventures. 

    Mississippi River Summer Adventure – Advanced

    The Mississippi River Summer Adventure – Advanced Camp is a week long program for students entering grades 10 through 12. Participants travel to northern Wisconsin to camp, hike and canoe while exploring leadership training and cultural sharing workshops.
