  • Course reserves

Murphy Library Access Services maintains an active reserve collection of course materials such as circulating (Murphy Library-owned) and personal copies of books and DVDs and limited numbers of textbook rental items. Inter-library loan and universal borrowing items are not eligible for placement on reserve. You may request that the library purchase items for reserve by completing the materials request form. Please direct students to the Access Services circulation desk located on the main floor of the library to check out materials on reserve.

Access Services staff will adjust the type, scope, and number of items made available with consideration of copyright law and fair use guidelines (see our Copyright Guide).

Please allow one week for reserves processing and placement.

Near the end of each semester, instructors will receive an e-mail requesting guidance on the continuation of the reserve item. Unless the faculty response to this e-mail indicates we should retain the reserve, all reserve materials will be removed and shelved or returned to the faculty member at the end of each semester.

To request that items be placed on reserve, please fill out this form:

  • Resource Cancellations Survey

     Resource Cancellations Survey
    Extended to April 24

Like other units and departments on campus, Murphy Library has been asked to make budget cuts to meet reduced state support for the UW System. Some of the cuts will come from the library's budget for collections. That budget pays for databases, electronic resources, periodicals, books, multimedia, and similar.

Library users are asked to help the library in its selection of titles for cancellation. Please share your thoughts regarding specific resources that have been identified for likely cancellation by completing the one-page Resource Cancellations Survey.

Read more about the rationale and selection criteria in the blog post: Proposed Resource Cancellations.

The survey will be open until April 24.
