  • Universal borrowing

Universal Borrowing (UB) is a service that allows UW-L students, faculty, retired faculty and staff to search the catalogs of all other libraries in the University of Wisconsin System and request titles (books, multimedia) not currently available in Murphy Library.

Materials will be delivered directly to the circulation desk at Murphy Library within 2-4 days, or you can designate another UW library as a pick-up point. You can also visit any other UW library and check out their materials with your UW-L ID card. Click here to go to a UB search in Search@UW. Loan periods are: Faculty/staff: 1 semester; students: 28 days.

To renew UB items, please use the renew function in your "My Accounts" window. UW campus policies vary regarding the renewal of UB items. If you are unable to renew an item through the "My Accounts" page, please contact the campus that owns the item to request renewal.

If you are looking for specific journal articles that aren't available in the Murphy Library databases, use interlibrary loan (ILL) instead of UB.

If you have questions about UB, contact Access Services at cirser@uwlax.edu.
