Since 2007 the Alice Hagar Curriculum
Resource Center at Murphy Library has
hosted annual programs on children’s
literature and its integration into the
PK-middle school curriculum. These
programs highlight literature that
respectfully and accurately portrays
current and historic ethnicity and
culture.
The images on this page are from the
2010 program, entitled African
American Children’s Literature: A
Discussion of History and Books for
PK-Middle School. On April 15,
2010, presentations were given by Dr.
Darwin L. Henderson, Associate
Professor, Literacy and Early Childhood
Education, University of Cincinnati. As
in past years, two separate
presentations were given for pre-service
and in-service teachers.
Three sponsors helped bring the
presentations to fruition: Murphy
Library Endowment Fund; Campus Climate
and Diversity; and the School of
Education. In addition the program was
partially funded by a UW-L Foundations
Small Grant.
