2011: New and Familiar Worlds: Latino/a-Themed Literature for PreK-High School, 2001-2010

Quiroa program 2011Since 2007 the Alice Hagar Curriculum Resource Center at Murphy Library has hosted annual programs on children’s literature and its integration into the PK-middle school curriculum. These programs highlight literature that respectfully and accurately portrays current and historic ethnicity and culture.

On April 5-6, 2011, Ruth E. Quiroa, Associate Professor of Reading and Language at
National-Louis University, presented her session, New And Familiar Worlds: Latino/A-
Themed Literature For Pre-K-High School, 2001-2010 to four different groups consisting
of Education/English classes, UW-L faculty and staff and local educators and librarians.

The program was sponsored by Murphy Library, Campus Climate and Diversity, and the
School of Education.
