General Music Emphasis

(Open to students within the School of Education-K-12 teaching licensure)

Course Work

60 credits, including music core requirements and the following courses:

  • MUS 211 - Basic Conducting
  • MUS 212 - Folk & Classroom Instruments I
  • MUS 213 - Folk & Classroom Instruments II
  • MUS 263 - Introduction to Music Technology
  • MUS 308 - Musical Culture in America
  • MUS 321 - Choral Arranging
  • MUS 322 - Choral Techniques
  • C-I 307 - General Music in the Junior/Senior High School
  • C-I 371 - Methods and Materials in Elementary School Music

Applied Music

6 credits must include:

  • 2 credits at the 300 level (any voice or instrument)
  • 2 credits of applied vocal lesson at the 200 level or above
  • 1 credit of applied piano at the 300 level or above
