Music Education Major
Instrumental Music Emphasis
(Open to students within the School of Education-K-12 teaching licensure)
Course Work:
60 credits, including music core requirements and the following courses:
- MUS 143 - Class Voice
- MUS 149 - Keyboard Competenties IV
- MUS 211 - Basic Conducting
- MUS 263 - Introduction to Music Technology
- MUS 316 - Advanced Instrumental Conducting
- MUS 320 - Orchestration
- MUS 322 - Choral Techniques
- C-I 308 - Instrumental Music in the Schools
Applied Music
6 credits in one instrument, including at least 2 credits at the 300 level and 1 credit at the 400 level;
Large Ensembles
6 credits to be selected from:
- MUS 151 - Screaming Eagles Marching Band
- MUS 154 - Symphonic Band
- MUS 155 - Orchestra
- MUS 163 - Wind Ensemble
Small Ensembles
2 credits
Electives
6 credits.
Technique courses will be determined by the student's performance instrument and desired teaching area.
Note:
Both successful completion of MUS149 with a grade of "B" or above and completion of the recital requirement (400 level, applied music) must be accomplished prior to student teaching.
