Mary Beth Hensel
Oboe
BIOGRAPHY:
Mary Beth Hensel is currently in her 19th season with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Serving as principal oboe and English horn, she has made four solo appearances with the orchestra on both instruments. An active freelance artist in the tri-state area, ( Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa) she maintains a large private studio as well. In 2002, she served as a panelist for the John Snow Pedagogy Symposium at the University of Minnesota. She has performed as a guest artist with the Artaria Quartet of Boston and is a member of Bluffside Consort. Currently, Mary Beth is the Business Manager for the La Crosse Area Youth Symphony Orchestras. She has taught at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, Winona State University and St Mary's Univeristy in Minnesota, and Viterbo University also in La Crosse. She is the owner and operator of The Oboe Place, which specializes in hand made oboe and English horn reeds. Ms. Hensel attended The Manhattan School of Music and received her Bachelor's Degree from the Juilliard School where she studied with Thomas Stacy.
