BIOGRAPHY:
David Phipps, DMA, is the viola instructor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Phipps has lived in the La Crosse area for fourteen years. During that time he served as Concertmaster, Assistant Concert Master and Assistant Conductor of the La Crosse Symphony. Phipps received a Masters and his D.M.A from the University of Iowa. He has performed as a soloist in recitals in the area and has performed as a soloist with the La Crosse Symphony, the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. When the UW-L Symphony Orchestra toured in Europe in May of 2000, he was featured as a soloist and conductor in concerts in Brno, Krakow, Prague, and Budapest. In addition to his performances with the La Crosse Symphony, he has performed in Viterbo's Bright Star concert series. Phipps has also served as a judge for the W.S.M.A. and has been a clinician for many of the grade schools and high schools in the region. He taught at Hamilton Elementary School's Community Partnership for Strings in 2001-2002. In addition to performing as a violinist and violist he has had a number of his compositions performed in the area, most recently "Holiday Concertino" written for the La Crosse Symphony and performed at the December 2004 Holiday Concert.
