UW-L has joined with Anglo Educational Services (AES) as an affiliate institution to expand our study abroad opportunities for students in the UK.
AES is able to arrange unpaid internship placements for students in a variety of fields, giving them a hands-on experience of the UK’s business culture. Recognized by the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education) and a UKBA Tier 4 Licensed Sponsor, AES works with universities and colleges to organize short-term and semester-length academic programs, the cornerstone of which is our prestigious London Internship program.
Our extensive network of contacts in all of London’s major industries makes it possible for us to provide students with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge required.

It is one of the world's leading financial centres and has the fifth- or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world depending on measurement. London has been described as a world cultural capital. It is the world's most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the world's largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education in Europe. In 2012, London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.
London has a diverse range of peoples and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries. London had an official population of 8,174,100, making it the most populous municipality in the European Union, and accounting for 12.5% of the UK population.] The Greater London Urban Area is the second-largest in the EU with a population of 8,278,251, while the London metropolitan area is the largest in the EU with an estimated total population of 15,010,295. London had the largest population of any city in the world from around 1831 to 1925.
The unique combination of an Internship provider and a leading UK Institution provide a truly special academic and experiential learning experience. Students will have two options for spending the semester at Birkbeck.
- Option 1-Combination Internship and
- Participants will complete one 6 credit internship in the area best suited for their academic interests, and also complete 2 modules (courses) at Birkbeck. For a list of modules available at Birkbeck please click here.
- Internships are arranged through AES, and can be tailored to fit virtually any need that you have. You will work with AES once you have indicated your desire for this option so that they can arrange the best possible experience for you.
- Option 2-Study at Birkbeck with no
- For this option students will register for 4-5 modules offered by Birkbeck, and will not participate in an internship experience. For a complete list of modules offered by Birkbeck, please click here.
The course equivalencies spreadsheets have been compiled from past approved Academic Plan forms. They show when the course was last approved and how it transferred back to La Crosse. You may notice that some classes satisfied several UW-L options.
This list is not comprehensive nor does it take the place of meeting with your advisor for final approval! They are meant to be a guide of what courses may be appropriate for your studies abroad.
HOUSING AND MEALS
AES owns and manages more than 250 apartments in central London, which can accommodate up to 1,200 people. These range from galleried one-bedroom apartments for two people to a four-bedroom apartment sleeping eight. Properties are all located in Zones 1 and 2 of central London, and in close proximity to Underground stations. The cost of housing is NOT included in the program fee, as there are a wide range of options available to you. You will with AES to secure housing, and will pay either AES or your landlord directly for the accommodation. In all cases meals are NOT included, but you will have access to a kitchen in your flat, or you may dine at one of the thousands of eateries in greater London.
PASSPORTS & VISAS
Before you travel abroad, you will need to obtain a passport, which will serve as proof of your U.S. citizenship. A passport may allow you to gain entry to (and exit from) other countries. Depending on the country to which you're traveling, a visa may be required as well. Entry requirements vary from one country to another. The U.S. State Department issues travel warnings specific to certain countries, and offers tips and publications relevant to travel abroad generally. Well in advance of your departure, you should also familiarize yourself with international travel health issues, and health recommendations specific to your destination.
- A GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Successful completion of one year of University study (sophomore standing).

The program fee includes the following:
- Tuition (12-15 credits, or 6 credits of courses and 6 credits of Internship)
- University and Administrative Fees
- On-site Orientation
- UW System required Health Insurance (CISI)
- Study Abroad Graduation Sash
Airfare is not included in the program price.
The program fee does not include housing or a meal plan or meal stipend of any kind.
Financial Aid is applicable to program fees.

All program fees subject to change. Valid for undergraduate Wisconsin residents only; out-of-state students pay Minnesota reciprocity or a non-resident surcharge.
All students will be required to attend a pre-departure orientation. The orientation will help you prepare for international travel in general, and for the experience of visiting the United Kingdom.
