August 2008 - New Semester Welcome Edition
Welcome to the 2008-2009 academic year. The start of this year brings a period of change to UW-L. Kathleen Enz Finken begins her first academic year as provost; the new academic building planning is proceeding rapidly; the old sports complex is gone and a new track is under construction; and the searches for two deans are proceeding on schedule. It is an exciting time that brings many challenges and opportunities!
As we begin this exciting new academic year, there are several events that you may find beneficial. The first is the Chancellor's All-University Address and Picnic. The university address will provide important information, while the picnic will allow all of us to reconnect with colleagues and friends. This year's Conference on Teaching and Learning also provides an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues. The conference is titled "Achievement, Equity and Retention: Key Pedagogical Changes that Can Make a Real Difference in ANY College Classroom,” and features Dr. Craig E. Nelson, Professor Emeritus of Biology, Indiana University.
