Building Capacity for Diversity Initiatives
UW-L’s Campus Climate Council recently hosted an on-campus retreat to engage individuals active in diversity-related initiatives in a large scale conversation regarding UW-L’s goals and priorities regarding diversity. The retreat was, in part, prompted by our NCA evaluation that indicated that UW-L’s diversity-related work was multifaceted but marked by a lack of coordination. Over 80 people attended the retreat that concluded with consensus points regarding short term (1 year) and longer term (3 year) goals. Key dimensions of the goals were the need to continue to work on the programming and goals associated with Plan 2008, assessment of current efforts, and the need for a coordination of efforts. Later this summer, a visual representation of UW-L diversity-related initiatives will be available, as will a synopsis of the goals generated at the retreat. Comments and questions can be directed to Beth Hartung, Campus Climate Coordinator (785-5092, hartung.beth@uwlax.edu, 227 Graff Main Hall).
