Provost Hitch is pleased to announce that Ron Rada has accepted the role of Interim Provost.   Ron served as Interim Provost from 2000-2002 and has fulfilled a variety of administrative roles at UW-L.  He will begin transition into the role in late May and will continue until December at which time the appointment will be assessed relative to progress on the Chancellor’s search. See campus e-mail from Provost’s office for additional information.

Administrative Searches

The Dean of Student Development and Academic Services position has been accepted by Paula Knudson and a press-release has been published.  The Director of School of Education search committee has submitted its recommendations to the Dean of CLS and a final decision is expected soon. The Dean of SAH search (chaired by Bob Hoar, Mathematics) is currently interviewing four candidates with the final candidate interviewing on March 31st.   Many thanks to these hard working committees*.

E-Portfolios

UW-L has entered into a three-year contract with Digital Measures to develop and maintain electronic portfolios for faculty and instructional academic staff.  The company is designing templates to correspond to UW-L policy and needs.  As of May 2007, all departmental annual reports will be electronic and as of Fall 2007 all retention materials will be submitted electronically.  In addition, JPC has endorsed converting to electronic portfolios for promotion by Fall 2007.  Training sessions for program assistants and faculty will be provided throughout the coming year.  A website regarding e-portfolios and FAQs is available.

UW-L’s Access and Growth Agenda

The idea that UW-L could have more flexibility in providing access by managing its tuition dollars was discussed at the Business and Finance Committee of the Board of Regents.  Formal proposals for special access projects like this one will be solicited by System in the summer.  Chancellor Hastad’s presentation is available here or off the Faculty Senate webpage.

Technology Survey

All faculty and instructional academic staff are reminded to complete the web-based questionnaire on the use of technology in teaching.  The results of the survey will help inform decisions regarding classrooms in the new academic building.  The survey should take no more than 15-20 minutes and there is a drawing for a combo DVD/TV player worth over $150 provided by Tierney Bros.  If you did not receive a link to the survey in an email from the Provost’s Office, please contact Betsy Morgan. The link will only be sent to viable UW-L email addresses.  You have until April 1, 2006 to complete the survey.
