Dr. Manrique has a varied academic background including degrees in economics and computer science in addition to political science.  Her specialties are comparative politics, especially developing nations, women's studies, and international relations.  She has a considerable number  of publications and has co-authored the book, The Multicultural or Immigrant Faculty in the United States.  Dr. Manrique has also established a national reputation for expertise in the area of computer communication for political science, including email, networking, and the internet, resulting in the publication of guides and holding of workshops nationwide.  She serves as Treasurer of the Information Technology and Politics section of the American Political Science Association and Treasurer of the Wisconsin Political Science Association.  She is also adviser to the UW-La Crosse Chapter of the Golden Key International National Honor Society and is President of the Golden Key International Leadership Council.  

Dr. Manrique is married to Gabriel, a professor of Economics and Finance at Winona State University.  They have two children, Patrick and Michelle, and live in Winona, MN.  Dr. Manrique is a well known Notre Dame fan and has been at UW-La Crosse since 1989.  She worked as a User Services Specialist for Academic Computing at UW-La Crosse prior to joining the Department of Political Science/Public Administration and the Department of Women's Studies in 1991.  Prior to coming to UW-La Crosse, Dr. Manrique taught at Quincy University, JohnWoodCommunity College, Slippery Rock University, and Mount Union College.
