Whom Should I Ask?The Chairperson and any faculty member can advise students on the political science and public administration major or minor. Questions about the General Political Science Major and Minor may be addressed to anyone in the department. However, the best approach is for the student to talk to the adviser most appropriate to his or her area of interest. Students should seek out the adviser appropriate to their concentration or interest and to their particular area of interest within their concentration. Students wishing assistance in choosing an adviser are encouraged to see Dr. Pam Rodgers. Areas of InterestLegal Studies/Pre-LawDr. Alan Bigel and Dr. Steve McDougal are the official UW-L pre-law advisers. International Relations or Comparative Politics or students also pursuing an International Studies MinorDr. Cecilia Manrique and Dr. Curt Reithel. Dr. Manrique specializes in comparative politics and the developing nations of Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Dr. Reithel specializes in American foreign policy, international law and organization, and Europe. Public Administration/Public PolicyDr. Joe Heim and Dr. Pam Rodgers . Dr. Heim specializes in the skill areas of public administration such as personnel and budget and general state and local government. Dr. Rodgers specializes in public policy, research methods, and urban management, and is the department's director of student undergraduate and graduate school advising. American Politics or Public PolicyDr. Pam Rodgers and Dr. Jocelyn Shadforth. Dr. Shadforth teaches American presidency and legislative politics and political parties. She specializes in American institutions. Dr. Rodgers specializes in public policy and urban affairs in addition to public administration. Students with strong interests in media and mass communications as it pertains to American politics should talk to Dr. McDougal. Students with an interest in interest groups, health and environmental policy should see Dr. Pam Rodgers. Political Philosophy and those in the General Honors ProgramDr. Bob Freeman. Dr. Freeman specializes in political philosophy. He also teaches in the General Honors Program and is the department's adviser to students in both the General Honors Program and the Departmental Honors Program. |
