Interested in an Internship?

UW-La Crosse and the Department of Political Science/Public Administration have a very strong internship program with Dr. Pam Rodgers, Pol/PA Advisor and Internship Coordinator, and Karolyn Bald, our full time specialist on PA and Political Science internships in Career Services. Internships are a requirement for the Public Administration Program and are highly recommended for all Political Science majors and minors. Internships can be during a semester, academic year, summer or January Session, be part time or full time, and be paid or unpaid.

Check out the Career Services website, but remember that some internships are not listed all the time so also meet with Dr. Pam Rodgers, 425B Wimberly Hall, who always has a sign up sheet on her office door (or call her at 608-785-6645). She is happy to help you evaluate the skills you want to acquire during your internship, compare and contrast posted internships, develop a new internship, or point you to an opportunity that is not currently on the web site. Additionally, go to Career Services to meet with Karolyn Bald, our Pol/PA internship specialist who is an alumnus of UW-L with double majors in Pol/PA, a graduate degree and 10 years experience in career/internship advising. Students are encouraged to attend information sessions on internships that are held every semester to become aware of requirements and intern evaluation forms and due dates during the semester.
It is very important to know that all registration for internship credit is done by Career Services after the Credit Approval Form is signed by the Department Internship Coordinator, Dr. Pam Rodgers, or the Department Chair, Dr. Cecilia Manrique, if Dr. Rodgers is not available.
Pol/PA internships (Pol 450) are graded and you can pick up the paper requirements (which vary by the number of credits of Pol 450 you are taking) outside Dr. Pam Rodgers Wimberly Hall 425B office.
You will need a faculty advisor/supervisor for your internship and Dr. Rodgers is always available to serve, but students can ask their faculty advisor or other Pol/PA faculty member.
