How far can you go?The UW-L Tri
Challenge is an indoor triathlon in its fifth year with
the Rec Sports Department on campus. It’s an event that
provides experienced and beginner multi-sport athletes
with an opportunity to put their endurance to the test.
Indoor triathlons are unique events that require
participants to swim, bike, and run for a predetermined
amount of time instead of distance. Scores are
determined by combining the overall distance one travels
during the three legs of the race.

RACE FORMAT
Each participant will be assigned to a 6-person heat.
Heats are scheduled every 20 minutes throughout the
event. The first heat begins at 8:00am and the final
heat time is determined based on the number of
participants that register. The race is organized into
three segments: swimming, biking, running. Participants
will swim for 10 minutes, bike for 20 minutes, and run
for 15 minutes, totaling 45 minutes of actual race time.
Transition time between activities varies from 10
minutes between the swim and the bike to 5 minutes
between the bike and run events.
TEAMS
Each participant has the option of having a team of up
to three people compete with them. If the team is
made up of three individuals, each person will choose
one event to participate in. If the team is made
up of two individuals, one person will do one event and
the other person will do two events. Instead of
each individual's name being written down for their
heat, a team name will signify what heat they will
participate in. All other aspects of the
competition are the same. Members of the team are
responsible for getting themselves to their appropriate
event on time. Teams will be scored in a separate
division from individuals.
Each participant on a team must pay their appropriate
individual fee, there is no "team fee"! Each
participant must fill out a separate registration form
indicating their team name.
SCORING
Scoring of the event will be based on the overall place
of a racer in relation to all other racers in each
individual segment. For example, racer with the furthest
swim distance will receive 1 point; second furthest will
receive 2 points, and so on. Participant with the lowest
points combined from all three legs of the race is the
overall winner. Distance completed will be reported to
the racer after finishing each segment. Teams will be
scored and ranked in a separate team division.
CALCULATING DISTANCE
SWIM - Number of lengths accurate to 0.25 lengths (25
yard pool).
BIKE - Miles cycled odometer reading accurate to 1/100

online on Thursday, Feb. 28th. The earliest heat will
begin at 8:00am.
