2013 UW-L Bouldering Competition

With 50+ routes ranging from VO to V7 we offer challenges to all skill levels. Come and compete in three categories: beginner, intermediate, and advanced for both men and women. Competitors will be placed blindly based on their total scores at the end of the day.

Climb for a Cause is a way of giving back to our local community! Participants will be asked to bring in canned or non-perishable food items. For your efforts, you will be given one raffle ticket per donation item. Participants are allowed up to 10 tickets for a raffle to be held after our competition. Please help our local food pantry; donations are down again this year. Climb on!


 
PRIZES

All entrants will receive a raffle ticket for each non perishable food item they donate. (max 10 tickets per person) Prizes will be drawn at the conclusion of the competition.

$20 for UW System Students
$25 for non UW System Students

Registration between Saturday, March 30 - Saturday, April 6

RULES & FORMAT
This is strictly a bouldering competition. No rope or lead climbing will be available

Competition Format


Traditional red point format
Competitors climb during the same time and are allowed to observe other climbers prior to their attempts. Competitors may also discuss the problems amongst each other. Competitors must start the problem from the start holds (in other words, competitors may not work on a problem from the middle). Competitors witness each other climb and when a competitor completes a problem, s/he has two witnesses initial his/her scorecard. Competitors choose which and how many of the problems they will attempt, and they get as many attempts as time permits.

1. Each person will be given a scorecard at the beginning of the competition.
2. Each route is a sit-start unless stated otherwise.
3. Starting & finishing holds will be marked with the upside down “V.”
4. Every natural is on unless stated otherwise.
5. Points are earned based on the completion of a route and number of attempts needed.
6. Route is completed once final hold is weighted & controlled.
7. Two witness verifications needed upon completion of route.
8. Competitors will have 3 hrs 45 minutes to climb.
9. The top five routes will be scored.
10. Divisions of beginner, intermediate, & advanced for both men & women.
11. Competitors being placed on their total scores at the completion.
12. The higher the point values the harder the problem.
13. You may try any problem as many times as you wish.
14. Awards are given to the top 3 Male and Female participants in each division

Rules
1. This competition is based on the honor system; please stay loyal to yourself & to others.
2. 1st attempt = full points, 2nd attempt = 90%, 3rd + attempts = 80%
3. Once your body has left the ground, you have started the problem.
a. If your foot slips off at start that does count as a fall.
4. If anything obstructs your progression through a route you can call a technical & restart the route. If you continue to climb & then fall, it will be considered a fall.
5. If a hold spins or breaks during your climb contact a judge & the route will be returned to its original condition.
6. You can only climb within the time of your assigned heat.

DIRECTIONS

Inverted Climbing For A Cause will be held at the UW-L climbing wall located within the Recreational Eagle Center at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse.

A campus map may be found here. The climbing wall is located at the south end of building #27 on the campus map.

From Interstate I-90, Exit 3, Exit 4 and Exit 5 all lead to the UW-La Crosse campus, but only the closest exit is listed below for each direction.

Exit 3 travels along the scenic Great River Road and is the main route to Historic Downtown La Crosse.
Exit 4 is a direct route south linking Hwy. 53 from the north with Hwy. 16.
Exit 5 is the most easterly route into the City of La Crosse via Hwy. 16.

From the West (I-90): Exit Interstate I-90 at Exit 3 onto US53 South. Drive 3.9 miles and turn left on La Crosse Street; continue for 1.1 miles and turn right on. East Avenue to Campus.
From the North (Hwy. 53): If traveling south on Highway 53 (go over I-90 at Exit 4). Follow Highway 157 to Highway 16. Turn right on Highway 16. Drive 3.5 miles and turn right on La Crosse Street and then left on East Avenue to campus.

 From the East (I-90): Travelers heading west to La Crosse on Interstate I-90 exit at Onalaska-La Crosse Highway 16 (Exit 5). Turn left onto Highway 16. Drive 4.8 miles and right on La Crosse Street and then left on East Avenue to campus.

From the South: Highway 14, 61, and 35 enter the city on the south. Follow the green "UW-La Crosse" signs north on Losey Boulevard to Highway 16 (3.0 miles). Turn left on La Crosse Street and then left on East Avenue to campus.
