    Description: The ACE Group Fitness Instructor Course is a course designed to give students the required knowledge and skill sets to help pass the ACE Group Fitness Instructor Exam and safely and effectively lead group exercise classes.

    INSTRUCTORS

    Tammy Zee, M.S., RYT, ACE

    Tammy is the Group Exercise Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. Tammy is also the owner and manager of Tammy Zee's Yoga & Pilates Studio in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Tammy holds a masters degree in Exercise Sport Science/Human Performance. She is certified by the American Council on Exercise in Group Exercise and is certified by by the American Aerobic Association/International Sports Medicine in Group Exercise, Kickboxing, Pilates, Yoga, Cycling, Pre-Natal Fitness and Water Exercise. Tammy is a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 level and is currently working on the 500 hour level in Yoga Therapy and she has 15 years experience instructing yoga. She also works for the La Crosse County Health Department as a Yoga Personal Trainer to assist those with mental illness. Tammy is certified in ZUMBA, Turbokick and Hip Hop Hustle. Tammy has 28 years experience in the fitness and health industry working with all age groups in which 25 of those years have been with the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. Tammy also has 17 years experience working as the Group Exercise Director at a local health club in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Tammy is a group exercise presenter and leads workshops in all areas of group exercise through out the U.S. Tammy also has experience training professional dancers and fitness competitors. Tammy has trained/certified/mentored hundreds of group exercise instructors through out the U.S, Her passion is sharing her knowledge with others to help them be the best they can be!

    Barb Schaefer

    Barb is the Group Fitness Director at the La Crosse Area Family YMCA, North Branch. She is certified in several fitness disciplines such as Zumba®, Step, Cardio, Pilates, Water Exercise, Total Body Conditioning, Strength Conditioning and Active Older Adult classes.  She has been affiliated with the La Crosse Area YMCA for 4 years, and is in charge of several Outreach fitness programs, as well as specialized programs for different populations at the YMCA. She is also a certified LiveStrong coach at the Y, helping cancer survivors gain strength and wellness. Barb has helped develop a training/mentoring program for new certified fitness instructors at the YMCA and has been active in the fitness industry for the past 33 years, at one time owning and operating her own fitness studio. She holds a degree in Psychology from UCLA, along with several post graduate classes and has presented at the La Crosse Vital Aging Conference and attended various fitness conferences around the United States.

    INSTRUCTORS

    Dennis Kline, M.S.  C.S.C.S  R.S.C.C

    Dennis is the Strength Center Manager at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. Dennis is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (NSCA-RSCC) with a B.S. and M.S. from Miami University. A former Olympic trials participant, Assistant Track coach, lecturer in Exercise and Sport Science, Rehab Director, and training consultant for the Mammoth Track Club. All qualities that allow Dennis to become an excellent instructor and mentor for new certified personal trainers. Dennis is also certified as a level I USTAF Track coach, a USTAF register track coach, and a USAW club coach.

    Lee Walraven, MS, HFS

    Lee is the Wellness Center Director at the La Crosse Area Family YMCA. Lee oversees equipment purchases\leases, hiring and training Wellness Center and personal training staff, along with the daily operations of the La Crosse and the North branch's Wellness Center. Lee is a certified

    Health Fitness Specialist with a B.S. in Health Promotion from South Dakota State University and a M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology from University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. He has done over 800 hours of clinical experience working in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and cardiac diagnostics/stress testing. Lee's emphasis has been working with patients with cardiac disease, metabolic syndrome, or pulmonary disease. Lee is active and has taught many classes ranging from Silver Sneakers for active older adults to platoon physical training during his 9 years of military service. His experience in the clinical setting and his wide range of exercise classes taught allows him to bring a diverse perspective to instructing personal training.
