    About auditing a class

Auditing is defined as sitting in on a lecture course and not actively participating. Auditors may not recite, perform, or take examinations, although regular attendance is expected.

    Grading

Audited courses are listed on a student's official UW-La Crosse transcript with a grade of "AS" (audit satisfactory) or "NR" (no report). Prior to enrolling, Senior Guest auditors discuss with the instructor the standard for earning an "AS" in the particular course.

    How to apply
    • Find the course you are interested in and get that instructor's permission to audit the class (override form). Then, you will need to apply to UW-La Crosse through the UW System Online Application as a “Special/Non-Degree Seeking Student.”
      • Tip: When you get to the section titled “Reason for Applying,” select “Visitor/guest student at the undergraduate level” or “Visitor/guest student at the graduate level” depending on the level of courses you would like to audit at UW-L.
      • Tip: When you get to the section titled “Applying As,” select “Senior Citizen Audit Only.”
    • Return override form to Records and Registration, 117 Graff Main Hall to get registered for the class.
    • Please see the Admissions page for more information on applying as a Special/Non-Degree Student.
    • The UW System also has a helpful document as well as a set of ‘Video Hints’ outlining application procedures.
