    New Freshman

    Hello and welcome to our Room Sign Up process for New Incoming Freshman residents. Please read through the following instructions first and then complete them step-by-step.

    Step 1: Confirm Your Status as a New Freshman Resident

    New Incoming Freshman residents are persons who have never attended, or resided, at UW-L or at another institution of higher education as a full-time collegiate student.

    The New Incoming Freshman section of Room Sign Up is meant for persons who are about to start their very first year of college at UW-L after completing high school. Transfer credits as a part of Advanced Placement courses or other high school collegiate preparation courses do not count towards your incoming freshman status. If you have questions about your status as an incoming student, please consult with our professionals at the number listed on our website.

    Step 2: Confirm Your Admission and Enrollment at UW-L

    In order to live in our residence halls, you MUST be a student at UW-L during the time you live there. If you are questioning your admission status, please check with the UW-L Admissions office at this website: uwlax.edu/admissions.

    Step 3: Learn About the UW-L Residence Halls

    Each residence hall is unique and you should make sure that the residence halls that you preference in your application match the experiences that you want.

    Take a look at The Residence Hall section of our website. Additionally, make sure to look at our Living Learning Community section to see if you want to live in a specialized educational environment.

    Here are some sample questions to answer are you look at these pages:

    1. Where is this hall located on campus as compared to my classrooms, dining halls, the student union, etc?

    2. What is the student composition of the hall? Freshmen only, Upperclassmen, International, or Mixed?

    3. Do I want to live in a Living Learning Community or in a First Year Experience hall?

    4. What are the different prices of each residence hall? Prices can be found on the Rates and Costs section of this website.
    Step 4: Complete Your Housing Application

    Click on this link and follow the login instructions to begin your Housing Application:

    Room Sign Up - Incoming Students

    The application will ask you to:

    Payment Required
    • Review your current housing information
    • Review the housing contract and agree to the terms and conditions
    • Pick your hall and room preferences
    • Fill in your emergency contact information
    • Pick your meal plan (Check out Dining Services to learn more about these plans)
    • Review your application summary to ensure accuracy

    Do not start your application until you are ready and feel comfortable completing these tasks.

    Note: This is a 1-year contract and you will be held to the full-term of this agreement. Do not arrange for off-campus housing unless you get permission from the Office of Residence Life to break this contract.

    Once you submit this application, please print the summary of your application for your records.

    Step 5: Pay Your $75.00 Housing Fee
    Payment Required

    Upon successful completion of Step 2, UW-L Admissions will send you an email that instructs you on how to pay your $75.00 Housing Fee. Housing applications are prioritized by the date that they are completed, which includes the successful payment of this fee. Persons who have NOT paid this fee will not be able to reserve a room on campus.

    Note: If your $75.00 Housing Fee is NOT received within 10 days of your application being submitted, your application will be canceled and you will need to start over from Step 4.

    To make your payment:

    1. Log into your WINGS account and go to the Student Center.
    2. Make sure to TURN OFF any pop-up blockers prior to continuing.
    3. Click on the Make a Deposit/Payment option in the Student Center.
    4. Click on the Click Here to Make a Payment or Deposit section of the site to continue.
    5. Click the On Campus Housing Deposit link for when you want to arrive (Spring or Fall)
    6. Click on the Add to Items to Pay button.
    7. Click Checkout and select your method of payment (Credit Card or Electronic Check). Note: there is a 2.75% service convenience charge for all credit card transactions.
    8. Continue to Checkout and Submit Payment to finish this process.
    Note Please print the confirmation page is you would like a receipt.

     

    Step 6: Continue to Check Your E-Mail for Your Housing Application Acknowledgement 

    You are almost done! You can expect an e-mail response within 10 business days after completion of Steps 4 and 5. If you have any questions about your housing application, please contact us at housing@uwlax.edu or 608.785.8075.  

    New Transfer

    New Transfer residents are persons who have never attended or resided at UW-L, but are currently in the process of transferring to UW-L from another institution.

    In order to live in our residence halls, you MUST be a current student at UW-L. If you are questioning your admission status, please check with the UW-L Admissions office at this website: uwlax.edu/admissions

    Note: For New Transfer residents, admission to UW-L does NOT guarantee on-campus housing.

    Returning

    • Review your application summary to ensure accuracy

    Do not start your application until you are ready and feel comfortable completing these tasks.

    Note: Please note 11.B of the current Residence Life housing contract. 11.B indicates that there is a $25.00 charge for canceling your on-campus housing application AFTER May 1. If you cancel after June 1, you will lose the $75.00 housing fee discussed in Step 4.

    Note: This is a 1-year contract and you will be held to the full-term of this agreement. Do not arrange for off-campus housing unless you get permission from the Office of Residence Life to break this contract.

    Note: Some current residents may be blocked from completing this process due to their conduct in the residence halls. If this applies to you, please consult with your Hall Director.

    Once you submit this application, please print the summary of your application for your records.

    Note: In the event that you do not have the financial resources to cover your $75.00 Housing Fee, please submit an email documenting your need and when you will make your payment to reslife@uwlax.edu. This email should be submitted no later than February 1. Be advised that the Office of Financial Aid and other offices will be consulted regarding your situation.

    Step 5: Continue to Check Your E-Mail for Your Housing Application Acknowledgement

    International

    Hello and welcome to our Room Sign Up process for International residents. Please read through the following instructions first, and then complete them step-by-step.

    Step 1: Confirm Your Status as an International student

    International students are persons who have been admitted to attend UW-L, who are currently not in the United states, and are not currently studying at UW-L.

    Residents who are international students who are currently attending UW-L should follow the Returning resident instructions on this webpage. If you are not living on campus currently, please follow the Other resident instructions on this webpage.

    If you have questions about your status as an International student, please consult with our professionals at the number listed on our website.

    Step 2: Confirm Your Admission and Enrollment at UW-L

    In order to live in our residence halls, you MUST be a current student at UW-L. If you are questioning your admission status, please check with the UW-L Office of International Education at this website: uwlax.edu/oie

    Step 3: Learn About the UW-L Residence Halls

    We, in the Office of Residence Life, are proud of our residence halls. We offer competitively priced and well-maintained accommodations that are second to none in the experiences that they offer. However, each residence hall is unique and you should make sure that the residence halls that you preference in your application match the experiences that you want.

    As an International student, you will have the opportunity to live in Eagle or Reuter Hall. Check out the hall pages for these halls in The Residence Hall section of our website.
