Adapted Physical Education Teaching Graduate Program Emphasis
BULLETIN: New funding opportunities available for APE Graduate Students
Students pursuing study in adapted physical education (APE) have the option to complete either a full graduate degree or a sequence of courses leading to Wisconsin APE teaching certification.
The first option is the full Master of Science degree in Physical Education Teaching - Adapted Physical Education Teaching Emphasis (35 Credits Total). This program prepares teachers to provide direct service to students who receive special education and to perform leadership and supervision roles in APE. Students completing this program will be eligible to receive certification as an APE specialist in the states of Wisconsin (#860) and Minnesota (License #8700.5502), as well as many other states (via reciprocity agreement).

The second option leads to Graduate Certification in Adapted Physical Education Teaching (18 Credits Total).
UW-L recruits well qualified teachers to the field of Adapted Physical Education. Approximately 10 currently employed physical education teachers from school districts participate in our Certification-only option. This is an 18 graduate credit-hour course of study that can be completed in 2-3 summers. Upon completion of this option, students will be eligible for the Wisconsin add-on certification in APE (#860) and Minnesota (License #8700.5502).
