Sport Management Program Application

Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Annual application deadlines are October 1st and
February 1st at 5:00 PM to the program director (Dr. Chia-Chen Yu, 213
Mitchell Hall).

Requirements for Entrance (Sport
Management Admissions Rubric)
- Complete 30 credit hours including general education courses.
- Earn a "C" or higher in pre-admission core courses (BIO 103 or BIO 105 or MIC100, C-S 101, and ESS 115).
- Have a GPA of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale).
- Complete and submit a formal application. The application form is available here: http://www.uwlax.edu/sah/ess/sm/files/application.rtf. Applications must be submitted to the program director (Dr. Chia-Chen Yu, 213 Mitchell Hall) before application deadlines and should include the following:
- The completed application form (Application form must be signed and approved by your advisor).
- An application/cover letter (not mission statement) that includes: 1) why you want to be a sport management major; 2) a brief explanation of your experiences in the field of sport management; and 3) how this major will help you to achieve your professional goals; 4) what would you do if not accepted (1-2 pages). (Cover letter tips and examples are available on: http://www.uwlax.edu/CareerServices/students/letter_writing.htm). Career Services and Tutors at Writing Center (304 Wimberly Hall, http://www.uwlax.edu/writingcenter/) offer writers help in preparing letters and resume.
- A copy of your resume. (Résumé tips and examples are available on: http://www.uwlax.edu/CareerServices/students/resume_writing.htm). Make sure to include a section on sport management experience. Career Services and Tutors at Writing Center (304 Wimberly Hall, http://www.uwlax.edu/writingcenter/) offer writers help in preparing letters and resume.
- Two completed job shadow reports. Must be sport management related sites. Students need to get faculty advisor approval for their job shadow sites before they begin them. The job shadow form is available here: http://www.uwlax.edu/sah/ess/sm/files/shadow.rtf.
- A current copy of your transcripts. (Students can obtain an unofficial transcript through TALON).
- Must take the fitness exam before application deadlines (effective immediately). Fitness exam (Body fat, VO2 Max, Push-up, Sit-up, Sit & Reach). To sign up for Fitness testing please contact Mr. Chris Dodge (dodge.chri@uwlax.edu, 785-8685) at the Human Performance Lab, 225 MH. All candidates are required to take the test, although there is no minimum level or passing rate applied to any candidate.
- A $20.00 check for your fitness test (made out to "UWL Human Performance Laboratory"). Please give this check to Mr. Chris Dodge when taking your fitness test.
- Involvement in sport management related experiences. Visit the Involvement Center (223 B Cartwright, http://www.uwlax.edu/sac/involvement) for sport management volunteer opportunities.
- Interview with the Sport Management Screening Committee. Applicants must submit a completed application packet to sign up an interview time slot. (Sign-up sheet will be posted outside 213 Mitchell Hall two weeks prior to the deadlines).
- A disk (used to upload application materials online for Sport Management Screening Committee to review). The disk should include the following files: 1) cover letter; 2) resume; 3) Two completed job shadow reports; 4) A current copy of your transcripts from TALON, PDF file.
Students who meet the above criteria will be considered for official entrance into a program. Annual application deadlines are October 1st and February 1st at 5:00 PM to the program director (Dr. Chia-Chen Yu, 213 Mitchell Hall or mailbox). However, it is recommended that you submit your application a week or two before the deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Admission to the Sport Management program is competitive and not all who apply may be accepted. Candidates are limited to two(2) application attempts during their academic career.

- A current copy of your transcripts.
- A current copy of your resume. Highlight your improvement and other professional involvement in the field of sport management since you last applied.
- Interview with the Sport Management Screening Committee. Highlight your significant improvement and other professional involvement in the field of sport management since you last applied. Applicants must submit a completed application packet to sign up an interview time slot. (Sign-up sheet will be posted outside 213 Mitchell Hall two weeks prior to the deadlines).
