Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections acquired through sexual contact.  These include genital warts, Chlamydia, genital herpes, molluscum, gonorrhea and syphilis.

 

 

Preventing STIs

  • Talk to your partner about STIs and agree to use condoms.

  • Use condoms any time you have any type of sex.

  • Carry condoms with you any time you could possibly be going to have sex.

  • If you have had more than one partner you are more likely to get STIs

  • Get tested for STIs if you or your partner have had other partners

 

Possible symptoms of STIs

For Women

  • burring or pain when urinating

  • bumps, sores, or blisters near your genitals, anus or mouth

  • unusual discharge, itching, pain or a bad smell from your anus or vagina

  • lower belly pain

  • vaginal bleeding when you are not having your period

For Men

  • burring or pain when urinating

  • bumps, sores, or blisters near your genitals, anus or mouth

  • discharge, itching or pain from your anus or penis
