If you are considering graduate school as an option, we encourage you to schedule an appointment to meet with one of our peer advisers/graduate student advisers. We have several resources for you to utilize, many of which are on-line. Choosing the right graduate program and school is a big decision. Faculty are some of the best resources around as they have specialized in an area and have completed graduate school themselves. Here are some things to consider as you think about grad school:
Campus Size - Do you like the size of UW-La Crosse? Do you want to try something smaller? Larger?
Faculty - Research the faculty. Do their areas of specialty match your interests?
Location - Graduate school can be an adventure. Do you want to experience a completely different region of the country or world?
Placement - Contact the Career Service's Office. Check out graduation rates, placement in related fields, potential employers and salaries of graduates.
Program Choice - Many people pursue a master's or doctorate in an area unrelated to their undergraduate discipline. This may require satisfying some prerequisites. Others will enhance their undergraduate studies.
Emphasis Area - Academic programs can have identical titles at two different schools yet be very different. It is important for you to decide what you want to learn and then find a program that matches your interests.
Note also that the AAC, along with Career Services, sponsors a graduate school workshop (Grad School 101) early in the spring semester. Watch for flyers, e-mails, and updates on this website.
