Graduate School Exploration
If you are considering graduate school as an option, we
encourage you to schedule an appointment to meet with one of our
graduate advisors. We have several
resources for you to utilize, many of which are on-line.
Choosing the right graduate program and school is a big
decision. Faculty are some of the best resources around as they
have specialized in an area and have completed graduate school
themselves. Here are some things to consider as you think about
grad school:
Campus Size - Do you like the size of
UW-La Crosse? Do you want to try something larger? Smaller?
Faculty - Research the faculty in the
programs that you are exploring. Do their areas of research
match your interests?
Location - Graduate school can be in adventure.
Do you want to experience a completely different region of the
country or world?
Placement - Contact Career Services at the
campuses that you are exploring. Check out graduation rates,
placement in related fields, potential employers, and salary
ranges of graduates.
Program Choice - Many students pursue a
master's or doctorate in an area unrelated to their
undergraduate discipline. This may require satisfying some
additional prerequisites. Others will enhance their
undergraduate studies.
Emphasis Area - Academic programs can have
identical titles at two different schools yet be very different.
It is important for you decide what you want to learn and then
find a program that matches you interests.
