Why ride the bus?
First of all you have unlimited access. That means you can
ride any MTU bus, anytime, anywhere at no charge.
Secondly, fewer cars will help alleviate parking congestion on
and around campus and also help project the environment.
Riding the bus is easy and convenient. Chat with friends,
roommates, or co-workers on the bus. Catch up on reading.
Or just enjoy a break. You'll even get to class on time!
Where do I catch the bus?
You can catch the bus at any MTU bus stop in town. Pick up a
copy of the MTU Bus Schedule and find the nearest bus stop. If
you're not sure of the bus route or if you need help figuring
out where or how to get a transfer bus, call 789-7350 for
assistance, or check out our campus
MTU website.
How often do the buses run?
Buses run on campus every 15 to 60 minutes depending on the day
of the week and time
of day. See the MTU Bus Schedule for exact times and routes.
Where can I get a copy of the
MTU Bus Schedule?
Pick up a copy at the
Cartwright Center info desk, UW-L
Police Services office, Murphy Library, or the front desk of
any residence hall.
Can I ride only to and from the UW-La Crosse campus?
No, you can ride any of six MTU routes all around town. Bus
route #1 serves campus directly and you can easily transfer to
other routes to get anywhere in La Crosse, La
Crescent, French Island
- including the airport - and the Hwy 16 retail corridor. See
the map above for the location of bus stops on campus.
When should I be at the bus stop?
Plan to be at your bus stop 5 minutes before your bus is
scheduled to arrive.
When I'm on the bus, how do I
signal the bus driver to stop at my destination?
When you see the bus getting close to your destination, pull the
buzzer cord or push the buzzer tape located between the windows.
Try to signal the driver about one block before your destination
so the driver has time to make a smooth, safe stop. Exit through
the rear doors and step clear of the bus.
Can
I bring my bicycle to campus?
No problem. Every MTU bus is equipped with bike racks. Bike
permits are required before you can use the racks. Permitting
will be done on campus this spring. Once you have a permit, just
ride your bike to your bus stop, load it onto the bike rack at
the front of the bus and you're set to go!
Do the buses still run during
school breaks and holidays?
Yes, they do. However, schedules are modified. Check the MTU Bus
Schedule for exact routes and times.
