Panhellenic Council
About Panhel:
Every woman who joins a sorority becomes a
member of the Panhellenic “family.” It is Panhellenic that
unites every sorority woman regardless of her individual
affiliation. In addition to uniting sorority women, Panhellenic
originated to strengthen personal and chapter values and to
establish common goals.
In addition, Panhellenic Council is the governing body of the
sororities. At UW-L, the Council consists of two members from
each of the two sororities as well as the Executive Board. The
Executive Board consists of the President, Vice President of
Scholarship, Vice President of Recruitment, Vice President of
Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer, Activities Director, and
GAMMA (Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol)
chair.
Panhellenic Council attends leadership workshops and
conferences. Panhellenic Council also co-sponsors educational
sessions, social activities, and philanthropy events with IFC.
During the fall, Panhellenic Council, along with the two
sororities, take part in a Philanthropy Event together.
Community Service is something that we, as a council, strive to
excel in. At the 2000 MGCA Conference in Chicago in February,
the UW-L Panhellenic Council was honored with the MGCA Community
Service Award. This competitive, selective award recognizes the
significance of volunteering as members of the larger community.
We, too, understand it’s true significance and are happy to
receive this award.
Panhellenic Creed:
“We, as undergraduate members of women’s
fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of
health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving to
the best of our ability, our college and community. Cooperation
for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best
possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity
activities.
We, as fraternity women, stand for service through the
development of character inspired by the close contact and deep
friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The
opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual
respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to
live.”
Reminders:
The Greek Community is going to be recording
our service hours as a whole and displaying them for all to see
in Cartwright. This will be a great opportunity to improve our
image and show everyone how much service we really do!
Our philanthropy plan for this semester involves each of us
completing 15 hours of service. This does not include Bounce for
Beats or Relay for Life hours (for example), however those hours
will go towards our chapter total hours. The 15 hours of service
does include any consistent service or volunteering sporadically
throughout the semester.
