History
The Junior Eagle Recreational Gymnastics
Program first began as more of a club atmosphere during the 1983-84
year. When the decision was made to drop the club, the Director still
wanted a place to begin a community program. For three years Continuing
Education ran this community program until Barbara Gibson, Head Coach of
the UW-L women’s gymnastics team, took it over and became its overall
supervisor.
Philosophy
JEP holds highly the belief that our young
gymnasts need to build not only healthy bodies but also healthy
attitudes. Together with their coaches, our “Jr. Eagles” will work to
develop these positive mind-sets both about themselves as well as the
overall gymnastics and exercise experience. No matter how long one
decides to stay involved with gymnastics, it can instill qualities to
last a lifetime including enjoyment and fun, desire, goal-setting,
interpersonal communication skills, and mental soundness. All of these
are in addition to promoting physical fitness – an integral factor to
helping live a healthy life. The staff of JEP strongly values these
principles and, thus, takes their work and responsibilities seriously.
