UW-L Falls at Eighth-Ranked UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball had its two-game winning streak snapped with an 80-67 loss at eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night. The Eagles fall to 9-10 overall and 4-6 in the WIAC while the Warhawks improve to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

UW-L raced out to a 13-4 lead with 13:50 left in the opening half as Andrew Haass scored seven points, including his second three-point field goal of the season. UW-Whitewater, ranked eighth on D3hoops.com, came back to force a 17-17 tie with 8:31 remaining. The Warhawks scored the next six points to take the lead, but the Eagles cut the deficit to 23-21 with 6:33 left. The Warhawks then finished half on a 14-5 run to lead 37-26 at intermission.

UW-Whitewater started the second half on an 18-6 run to lead 55-32 with 14:11 remaining. UW-L later cut the lead to 63-48 with 7:15 left, but the Eagles could get no closer than the final margin of 13.

Haass led four UW-L players in double figures with a career-high 18 points, finishing seven-of-10 from the field, including hitting both of his three-point attempts. He was also two-of-two at the free throw line. Tony Mane totaled 14 points for the Eagles, going five-of-16 from the field (three-of-eight from three-point range).

Chris Fehrenbach added 13 points and Billy Kegler 12. Fehrenbach was five-of-14 from the field, including two-of-seven from three-point range. He is now tied for first in UW-L history in career three-point field goals made with 206. Fehrenbach shares the record with Casey Taggatz. Kegler was four-of-four from three-point range in Wednesday's contest.

UW-L shot 42.1% from the field, including 52.4% (11-of-21) from three-point range. The Eagles were eight-of-nine (88.9%) at the free throw line.

Matt Goodwin led all five UW-Whitewater starters in double figures with 16 points. Myles McKay (15 points), Kori Vernon (14), Billy Kolinske (13) and Kevin Koski (10) also scored in double figures. The Warhawks shot 51.0% from the field, including 64.3% (nine-of-14) from three-point range. The team was 19-of-25 (76.0%) at the line.
