UW-L Wins NCAA III Midwest Regional; Zdroik Third Overall

Winneconne, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured its fourth straight NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne. With the win, the Eagles clinch a berth for the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday, November 17 in Northfield, Minnesota.
UW-L totaled 70 points in Saturday's regional while UW-Stevens Point was second with 76 points. The Pointers also earned an automatic berth for the national championships. North Central College (Ill.) placed third with 118 points while Augustana College (Ill.) was fourth (152) and UW-Platteville fifth (178). A total of 35 teams took part in Saturday's regional. The at-large bids for next week's national meet will be announced Sunday, November 11.
Paul Zdroik led UW-L Saturday with a third-place finish overall. He ran 24:17.61 on the 8,000-meter course. Tyler Sigl of UW-Platteville won the individual title with a first-place time of 24:01.06 while Brandon Mull of Wheaton College (Ill.) finished second at 24:11.37.
The Eagles' Paul Moran placed 11th overall (24:43.37) while Dallas Vincent was 14th (24:46.09) and Connor Lonning 19th (24:54.52).
UW-L's Dan Thour finished 23rd overall (24:58.56) with Kyle Coghlan 25th (25:00.60) and Ben Herdeman 52nd (25:28.43). A total of 258 runners participated.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 17 at the NCAA Division III Championships in Northfield, Minnesota. The meet begins at noon at St. Olaf College.
