UW-L Snaps Losing Streak; Defense Holds UW-Oshkosh to Minus Yards in Second Half

La Crosse, Wis. The UW-La Crosse football team snapped its three-game losing streak with a 24-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon at Roger Harring Stadium at Vetearns Memorial Field. The Eagles improve to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC while the Titans drop to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The contest was played in front of a crow of 3,637 on Family, Friends & Alumni Weekend at UW-L.
UW-L's defense held UW-Oshkosh to zero first downs and minus one yard of total offense in the second half as the Eagles recorded their first shutout of the Titans since 1995 (44-0). UW-L has now won 22 straight games over UW-Oshkosh.
After a scoreless first quarter, UW-L took a 7-0 lead on Mike Schmidt's one-yard run with 10:49 remaining in the second period. The Eagles made it 14-0 with 2:08 left in the second as Griffin Moe hit Dan Hall with a 28-yard touchdown pass.
The Eagles took the second half kickoff and drove 79 yards in 15 plays to take a 17-0 lead as Kyle Wojcik connected on an 18-yard field goal with 7:17 remaining in the third quarter. It was Wojcik's first collegiate field goal attempt. UW-L finished the scoring in the fourth quarter as Moe hit Brian Edmiston with a 21-yard touchdown pass with 7:01 left.
UW-L finished with 357 yards of offense, including 183 rushing and 174 passing. Hall led the Eagles with 76 yards rushing on 22 carries while Eric Donoval had 66 yards on 10 attempts. Moe was 19-of-29 passing for 174 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Edmiston, Jason Wagner and Cody Jenson each caught four passes to lead UW-L. Edmiston had 45 yards receiving and a touchdown while Wagner totaled 43 yards receiving and Jenson 24.
UW-Oshkosh was held to 135 yards of offense, including 84 rushing and 51 passing. The Titans finished with minus one yard of offense in the second half as they had minus 10 yards of rushing on nine attempts in the final 30 minutes. UW-Oshkosh had six first downs (all in the first half) in the game and finished three-of-14 on third-down. UW-L won the time of possession, 38:09 to 21:51. UW-Oshkosh ran only 16 plays of offense in the second half, including three in the third quarter.
Andy Moriarty led UW-Oshkosh with 109 yards of rushing on 22 carries, but was held to five yards on six attempts in the second half. Joe Patek was five-of-13 passing for 42 yards while Dieter Juedes finished four-of-seven for nine yards. Kyle Kubasa had three catches for 15 yards for the Titans.
Joe Troia led UW-L's defense with nine tackles, including three for loss and two quarterback sacks. He finished with seven solo tackles. Drew Kiefer totaled eight tackles for the Eagles. UW-L's Brett Nagan averaged 41.2 yards on four punts with a long of 63.
Dave Dejewski led UW-Oshkosh with nine tackles, including seven solo and one for loss. He also had an interception for the Titans.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, October 27 hosting UW-Stout at 1 p.m.
