Women Defeat Pointers in Dual; Men Fall to UW-Stevens Point

Stevens Point, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's and men's swimming and diving teams split a WIAC dual at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon. The Eagles' women's squad earned a 139-104 victory over the Pointers while the men fell 159-82.
In women's action, Chelsea Hoff captured two individual titles Saturday winning the 50 (24.10) and 100 (53.47) freestyle. Sarah Russart won the 500 freestyle (5:20.36) for the Eagles while Kristi Parker took the 200 backstroke (2:10.61). UW-L won both diving events as Amanda Medendorp captured the 1-meter (282.20 points) and Kristina Wanous the 3-meter (277.20).
The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Parker, Russart, Hoff and Clare Hathaway took first (4:00.97) as did the 400 freestyle relay of Hathaway, Danielle Rux, Brianna Peyer and Katelyn Hartung (3:39.51).
UW-L's Anita Talavera recorded three top-three finishes Saturday. She placed second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:05.12) and 200 butterfly (2:15.44) while finishing third in the 500 freestyle (5:23.50).
Medendorp was second in the 3-meter diving (255.15 points) and Wanous second in the 1-meter (245.85). Shannon Doyle was third in the 1-meter (243.10).
Kacie O'Brien finished second in the 200 I.M. (2:14.57) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.37) for the Eagles while Peyer was second in the 50 freestyle (25.25), Hartung second in the 200 freestyle (2:00.28) and Elisabeth Misener second in the 200 backstroke (2:14.13).
Third-place finishers included: Hathaway in the 100 freestyle (55.95), Rux in the 200 freestyle (2:03.08) and Jennifer Bryson in the 1,000 freestyle (11:09.99).
In men's action, Lance Scadden won the 100 backstroke (2:01.23) for UW-L while Karl Richters captured the 1,000 freestyle (10:17.81). The Eagles' 400 freestyle relay of Anthony Wolff, Matthew Diehl, Christopher Boyle and Michael Beilman also finished first (3:12.22).
Boyle recorded a pair of second-place individual finishes in the 100 (48.31) and 200 (1:45.56) freestyle. Diehl was also second in the 50 freestyle (21.78) while Wolff was second in the 200 butterfly (2:02.39).
UW-L's 400 medley relay of Scadden, Cole Swanson, Wolff and Diehl finished second (3:36.80).
Tanner Classon finished third in both the 1-meter (216.60 points) and 3-meter (160.80) diving. Anthony Schmidt also had two third-place results, including the 200 I.M. (2:02.35) and 200 butterfly (2:04.20). Casey Borden was third in the 200 backstroke (2:04.00) and Beilman third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.56).
