UW-L Tied for Sixth at NCAA III Championships

Oshkosh, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men’s track & field team is tied for sixth-place after the second day of competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Eagles have 10.0 team points. The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) leads the men’s standings with 19.0 points.

Monmouth College (Ill.) is second with 16.0 while UW-Platteville and the University of St. John’s (Minn.) are tied for third with 13.0. UW-Oshkosh is fifth with 12.0 points. Joining UW-L tied for sixth are UW-Whitewater, Whitworth University (Wash.), the University of Redlands (Calif.), Mount Union College (Ohio), Moravian College (Pa.) and Hamilton College (N.Y.).

In Friday’s action, Matt Gordy and Alex Rooker competed in the 100-meter dash trials, but both failed to advance to Saturday’s final. Gordy registered a time of 10.75 while Rooker finished at 10.92.

In Saturday’s final day of action, Jessie Dengsavang will compete in the triple jump and Bobby Riley in the shot put.

Riley and Alex Tapplin both earned All-America honors Thursday. Riley placed third in the discus throw at 167-9 while Tapplin finished fifth in the pole vault (15-11 ¼). Riley picked up his sixth career All- America award, including third outdoors. He placed second in the shot put and third in the discus throw a year ago. Riley has three indoor All-America accolades, including two shot put national titles (2007, 2008). He placed seventh in the shot put in 2005.

Tapplin earned his third career honor in the pole vault. He finished third outdoors and seventh indoors in 2006.
