UW-L Finishes Seventh in NWCA Scholar Top-25; Eight Individuals Honored

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The UW-La Crosse wrestling team finished seventh on the list of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top-25 Scholar Teams for the 2007-08 season. The Eagles compiled a 3.443 team grade point average. Williams College ranks first with a 3.528 grade point average while Olivet College is second at 3.497 and Coe College third at 3.481.
The top-25 was released Friday at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Wrestling Championships being held at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
Along with the team honors, UW-L had eight wrestlers named to the NWCA Division III Scholar All-America Team Friday. Jordan Kolinski (133-pounds, political science major, 3.64 grade point average); Jay Milz (157, business management, 3.50); Tim Palmer (165, political science/public administration, 3.44); Josh Chelf (174, physical education, 3.55); Josh Zabel (184, sports management, 3.27); Andy Moore (197, exercise sports science, 3.44); Tim Winker (197, education, 3.56) and Dan Laurent (285, biochemistry, 3.89) were all selected to the team.
UW-L, under second-year head coach Dave Malecek, is in second-place after the first day of competition at the NCAA III Championships. Action concludes Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
