Eagles Remain Undefeated in Conference Action

Stevens Point, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 18-1 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC with a 25-12 victory at UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night. The Eagles entered the dual ranked second in NCAA Division III while the Pointers were ranked 11th.
UW-L won seven of 10 matches Wednesday night. The dual begin at 174-pounds as UW-L's Josh Chelf earned an 7-6 win over Eric Bath of UW-Stevens Point. Chelf entered the match ranked first in the country at 174-pounds while Bath was second.
Third-ranked Josh Zabel gave the Eagles an 6-0 lead as he won by decision (9-7) over Ben Engellend at 184-pounds. UW-Stevens Point tied the meet after winning the next two matches. Second-ranked Craig Bolling won by decision (6-1) over seventh-ranked Andy Moore while Mitch Szwet won by decision (2-1) over UW-L's ninth-ranked Dan Laurent.
Brandon Music made it 12-6 for UW-L as he won by forfeit at 125-pounds and Jordan Kolinski, ranked fifth in the country, made it 15-6 with a win by decision (9-5) over Jered Kern at 133. The Pointers cut the lead to 15-12 at 141-pounds with Chase De Cleene winning by fall (3:53) over Dan Crone.
The Eagles finished the dual with three consecutive wins. Ninth-ranked Matt Mauseth won by decision (6-3) over Kyle Mueller at 149-pounds; Jay Milz won by decision (2-0) over Chris Brown at 147 and Tim Palmer earned a major decision victory (14-1) over Jake Wozniak at 165. Palmer entered the dual ranked first in NCAA Division III while Wozniak was third.
UW-L returns to action Friday, January 25 hosting Lawrence University (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
