UW-L Records WIAC Victory at UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 32-9 victory at UW-Whitewater Wednesday night. The Warhawks drop to 0-2 in duals and 0-1 in the conference.
UW-L, ranked third in NCAA Division III, won seven of 10 matches Wednesday night, but UW-Whitewater took a 3-0 lead after the first match as Jeremy Johnson won by decision (17-13) over Brandon Music at 125-pounds. The Eagles' Jordan Kolinski, ranked fifth in the country at 133, won by major decision (14-4) over Josh Miller to give UW-L a 4-3 lead.
UW-Whitewater, ranked 22nd in NCAA III, took a 6-4 lead as Tim Walsh won by decision (7-3) over UW-L's Kevin Barber at 141. Matt Mauseth, also ranked fifth this season, gave UW-L a 7-6 lead as he won by decision (16-9) over Matt Schuck. It started a run of six straight wins for the Eagles.
Jay Milz won by major decision (12-2) over Dustin Fox at 157-pounds for UW-L to make it 11-6 while Tim Palmer and Josh Chelf both earned wins by fall. Palmer won by fall at 165-pounds over Pat Nagel while Chelf defeated Rob Schoner by fall at 174. Palmer and Chelf are both ranked first in the country at their respective weight classes. The two falls gave UW-L a 23-6 lead.
Fifth-ranked Josh Zabel made it 26-6 as he won by decision (12-5) over UW-Whitewater's David Casper at 184. Andy Moore received a forfeit for UW-L at 197.
The Warhawks' Sean Evans finished the dual with an 8-6 win over the Eagles' Dan Laurent at 285-pounds. Laurent is ranked sixth in the country.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 29 at the Midlands Tournament in Evanston, Illinois beginning at 9:30 a.m.
