UW-L Defeats UW-Platteville in WIAC Dual

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 42-9 victory over UW-Platteville Thursday night in Mitchell Hall. The Pioneers fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

It is UW-L's 18th win in the last 19 duals with UW-Platteville. The Eagles won eight of 10 matches Thursday night.

UW-L, ranked third in NCAA Division III, took a 6-0 lead at 125-pounds as Pat Parrillo received a forfeit win. Fifth-ranked Jordan Kolinski made it 10-0 after a 14-4 major decision win over UW-Platteville's Jeff Gale at 133.

Vinny Alber, ranked 10th in the country for the Pioneers at 141, cut the deficit to 10-6 with a win by fall (2:58) over Kevin Barber. At 149-pounds, Matt Mauseth earned a win by fall (1:29) over Dillion Potnack for a 16-6 UW-L lead.

UW-Platteville's Jesse Milks earned a 4-3 decision win over Jay Milz at 157 to make it 16-9. UW-L then won the final five matches of the dual. Tim Palmer, currently ranked first in NCAA Division III at 165-pounds, won by major decision over Carsten Carlsen, 12-3, for a 20-9 lead. Number-one ranked Josh Chelf followed with a win by fall (1:25) for the Eagles at 174-pounds over Erik Sutliff.

Josh Zabel won by major decision, 9-0, over Brad Zellner and 184 while Tim Winker earned a forfeit victory at 197-pounds for the Eagles. Dan Laurent, ranked seventh, finished the meet with a win by fall (:16) over UW-Platteville's Paul Wochinski.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 1, hosting its own 2x4 Tournament in Mitchell Hall. Action begins at 9 a.m.
