Letter from the Athletic Training Staff

1. Accommodations for Participants

Numerous hotels are listed under the Visitor Info link above, many of which are within a short drive from the University.  Each team is responsible for making their own reservations. Please call the respective hotels with questions and/or concerns.

2. Admission Prices

            General Admission Adults:                           $ 6.00

            Students/Seniors/Children 5 and Under:     $ 3.00

            UW-L Students (with student ID):              $ FREE

3.  Athletic Training

A Certified Athletic Trainer will be available throughout the entire competition and training session.  Teams that will be traveling without a trainer or have special needs beyond heat and ice should contact our coordinating ATC – Scott Kuzma at (608) 785-6525 immediately. A letter from the ATC with more detail can be found above.

4.  Awards

Following the championship match, WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner will be presenting awards in the following areas:

1. WIAC Honor Roll recipients
2. Athletes of the Week
3. Individual Champions
4. Recognition of all seniors
5. Scholar-Athlete Award
6. Team Champion

5. Concessions

A concession stand will be available throughout the championship event.

6.  Hospitality

There will be a hospitality room provided for all coaches, assistants, meet personnel and administrators during the competition sessions.  Please ask the Meet Director or meet volunteer for the location of the hospitality room upon your arrival.

7.  WIAC Championship T-Shirts

WIAC Championship t-shirts will be pre-ordered.  The official order form must be returned by February 8, 2007.  At this time, no money will be required; however, we do ask that you bring cash or check (Made out to UWL Athletics) with you to the coaches meeting to cover all T-Shirt orders. The t-shirt order form can be found at the top of this page.

8.  Parking

Each team will be allowed to park in the lot adjacent to Mitchell Hall.  No overnight parking is allowed, and tickets will NOT be issued during the Sunday championship.

9.  Coaches Meeting

A meeting for all WIAC participating institutions will take place at 5:00 P.M. in room 119 of Mitchell Hall for the 2007 WIAC Wrestling Championships.   Food and drinks will be provided.

10.  Locker Rooms

Locker rooms will be available in Mitchell Hall throughout the event. The locker rooms are located in the lower level of the building where a member of games management will direct you.  Please advise your student-athletes not to leave any valuables in the locker rooms as they will be unlocked throughout the duration of the event with limited supervision.

11.  Match Times

Whenever possible matches will start at the time listed on the tournament schedule.  In no case shall a match start before the scheduled start time listed for that particular match on the championship bracket.

12.  Roster

Please complete a tentative lineup and FAX one typed copy to Dave Johnson at (608) 785-6539 by Monday, February 12, 2007.

13.  Weigh-Ins

Weigh-ins will occur at 8:00 AM in the Mitchell Hall Gymnasium.  Teams will be weighed in by weight class as indicated on your submitted team roster beginning with the lowest class and working up to the heavy weight.  Medical and skin checks for all student-athletes will be conducted from a roster submitted during the final registration period.  An on-site physician and dermatologist will make the final determination if a student-athlete can participate in the championship. 

14.  Video Taping

The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and the WIAC will not provide videotaping for schools. Each school will be responsible for taping their own matches.  Areas will be designated at each mat for taping. All teams should plan to use wireless video equipment as a power supply will not be available on the mats.
