UW-La Crosse Launches New L-Club
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse launched its new L-Club for athletic fundraising in July, 2005.
“The new L-Club combines all athletic fundraising into one organization,” said Steve Fleis, the L-Club's first president in 2005. “The L-Club will enhance our efforts to raise much-needed funds for all UW-L sports and its student-athletes. Coaches, business leaders, and existing booster clubs are on board and excited about this new direction.”
Funds will be used to sustain the quality of UW-L’s quality athletic programs
by increasing the non-taxpayer dollars needed for equipment, recruitment, professional
development of staff and other essential expenses.
Annual gifts to the L-Club can be made in the form of a restricted gift to an
individual sport or unrestricted to support the total athletic program.
“The goals of the L-Club remain the same: to provide a positive experience for our student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom,” said Fleis.
Mike Desmond, Executive Director of the L-Club, believes expanding the new L-Club will enhance the Eagles’ overall athletic program. “Our student-athletes have established a tradition of excellence both on the field and in the classroom,” says Desmond. “UW-L captured nine Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships in 2006-07 and finished seventh in the prestigious Directors’ Cup Standings for all of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III institutions,” adds Desmond. “The success also continued in the classroom with 45 UW-L Scholar-Athletes and nine WIAC Scholar-Athletes.”
“We want to maintain our excellence and that requires resources,” says Desmond. “Eagle athletics are an important part of the university experience at UW-L. Those who invest in the L-Club will assure that tradition continues.”
