UW-L Earns Win at UW-Platteville

Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 65-58 victory at UW-Platteville Thursday night on Bo Ryan Court. The Eagles improve to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the WIAC while the Pioneers drop to 10-11 overall and 4-8 in the conference.
The game was moved to Thursday after being postponed Wednesday due to inclement weather.
UW-Platteville led 17-11 and 20-15 in the first half before UW-L came back to force a 23-23 tie with 2:08 remaining in the first half. The Eagles lead 27-26 at intermission.
The Pioneers led 51-50 with 5:27 left when the Eagles' Lindsay Wahl hit a pair of free throws to give UW-L a 52-51 lead. UW-L would never trail again. After UW-Platteville cut the lead to 54-53, Wahl scored on a three-point play to give UW-L a 57-53 margin with 3:34 left. The Pioneers made it 57-55 with 3:17 remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the game.
Mackenzie Hunter and Dana Churchill hit back-to-back layups for UW-L for a 61-55 lead and Wahl later hit two free throws for a 63-56 lead with 1:31 left.
Wahl led UW-L with 19 points, finishing four-of-eight from the field and 11-of-13 at the line. She also had seven rebounds. Hunter and Churchill each added 15 points for the Eagles. Hunter also finished with eight rebounds. Anna Halat tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.
UW-L shot 42.9% from the field, including 30.0% (three-of-10) from three-point range. The Eagles were 14-of-24 (58.3%) at the line.
Angie Vamstad led UW-Platteville with 17 points while Lisa Grantman finished with 14. The Pioneers shot 37.5% from the field, including 31.3% (five-of-16) from three-point range. The team was 11-of-21 (52.4%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 9 at UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m.
