UW-L Wins Eight of Ten Games During Spring Trip

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse softball team went 8-2 on its spring trip in Arizona last week to improve to 12-3 on the season.

The Eagles won their first seven games of the trip, including a 19-5 (five innings) win over Lakeland College (Wis.) and 4-3 over Augsburg College (Minn.) March 16. UW-L then defeated Nichols College (Mass.) 8-5 and California Lutheran University 4-0 March 17.

The Eagles made it six straight victories with a 6-3 win over Delaware Valley College (Pa.) and 20-4 (five innings) over Buena Vista University (Iowa) March 18. UW-L defeated Babson College (Mass.) 7-6 (eight innings) March 20 before a 12-8 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University. The Eagles wrapped up their trip with a 9-4 win over Kalamazoo College (Mich.) March 21 and a 10-8 (eight innings) loss to Morningside College (Iowa) March 21.

Rachel Croak hit .590 (23-of-39) with 16 runs scored, one double, two triples and eight RBI in 10 games. She also finished 10-of-11 in stolen base attempts. Liz Bradley hit .471 (16-of-34) for the Eagles with 11 runs scored and 16 RBI.

Rachel Weyer hit .439 (18-of-41) for the week with 15 runs scored, four doubles and nine RBI while Jenna Ahnen hit .414 (12-of-29) and Sarah Pfeifer .400 (12-of-30) with two home runs and 10 RBI.

UW-L hit .399 as a team with eight home runs and 93 runs scored in 10 games.

Cassie Huettl compiled a 1.11 earned run average in three appearances while Kaylyn Von Glahn went 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA. Heather Schultz finished with 3-1 with a 3.75 ERA while Shelly Monahan was 2-1.

The Eagles compiled a 3.91 team earned run average.

UW-L returns to action Tuesday, April 1 hosting UW-Platteville in the WIAC opener at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader.
