UW-L Places Third at NCAA Qualifying Tournament

Janesville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s tennis team placed third at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference NCAA Division III Qualifying Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Janesville Athletic Club. The Eagles defeated UW-River Falls, 9-0, in the third-place match. UW-L dropped a 5-0 decision to UW-Whitewater Saturday morning in the semifinals.

UW-L finishes its season at 14-7 overall.

In their win over UW-River Falls, Carlie Bohrman earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kathryne Ostrowski at No. 1 singles. The Eagles' Debbie Braun defeated Cassi Wood at No. 2 singles (5-7, 7-5, 16-14) while Katie McDonald beat Lindsay Gillman at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0).

At No. 4 singles, Sarah Schoenwaelder defeated Katie Anderson (6-4, 6-4) while Kristen Holle beat Brittany Bonine at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1). The Eagles' Katie Cegelski defeated Stacia Kozel at No. 6 singles (4-6, 6-2, 10-5).

In doubles play, Bohrman/Schoenwaelder defeated Ostrowski/Anderson at No. 1 (8-4), McDonald/Braun beat Wood/Kozel at No. 2 (8-6) and Holle/Stephanie Platto defeated Bonine/Britany Bach at No. 3 (8-4).

Versus UW-Whitewater, Bohrman fell to Ingrid Stensvaag at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2) while Schoenwaelder lost to Amy Siemon at No. 4 (6-3, 6-2).

The Warhawks also took all three doubles match to earn the 5-0 dual victory. Laurn Fahl/Tiffany Dawson defeated Bohrman/Schoenwaelder at No. 1 doubles (8-4) while Stensvaag/Michelle Daciolas defeated McDonald/Braun at No. 2 (8-6). Brittany Gering/Siemon defeated Holle/Platto at No. 3 (8-2).

The remainder of the singles matches were not completed due to limited indoor court availability after UW-Whitewater had won the fifth and deciding match.
