UW-L Opens Spring Season with Victory

Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s tennis team opened its 2008 spring season with a 5-4 victory over The College of St. Catherine's (Minn.) Sunday night in Rochester. The Eagles improve to 6-4 overall on the season.

UW-L took three of six singles matches against St. Catherine's. Carlie Bohrman earned a 2-6, 6-4, (10-7) victory over Jenna Olson at No. 1 singles for the Eagles while Sarah Schoenwaelder defeated Abby Beytien-Carlson at No. 4 by the scores of 1-6, 6-2, (10-5).

The Eagles' Kristen Holle beat Megan Dean at No. 6 singles (6-3, 6-1).

Katie McDonald fell at No. 2 singles to Susie Hallquist (6-3, 7-5) while Debbie Braun lost at No. 3 to Jamie Weber (6-4, 6-3). The Eagles' Katie Cegelski lost at No. 6 to Kasie Rust by the score of 6-1, 3-6, (10-8).

UW-L took two of three doubles matches. Bohrman/Schoenwaelder defeated Olson/Martha Ginder at No. 1 (8-2) while McDonald/Braun beat Weber/Hallquist at No. 2 (8-2). St. Catherine's Sam Shobert/Abby Beytien-Carlson defeated Holle/Stephanie Platto at No. 3 (8-6).

UW-L returns to action Monday, March 17 against Carthage College (Wis.) in Orlando, Florida at noon.
