International Business Major
International Business (IB) Major Enroll in appropriate language courses to begin or complete the proficiency requirement. Proficiency in a language other than your native language, through the intermediate (202) level is required for this major. Many International Business majors complete a minor, or second major, in their proficiency language. Also begin completion of the CBA core requirements as suggested in advising for the freshman year at the CBA advising website. Other courses in your freshman and sophomore year will be from the University's General Education program. Discuss study abroad with your faculty advisor. Options can be found at the Office of International Education, 116 Graff Main Hall. Also visit their website, http://www.uwlax.edu/oie/ Review the "Area Studies Requirement" in the major with your advisor and plan which you will complete. If you have not already decided what your second (functional) business major will be, have some discussion with your advisor about that this year.
Continue with your language proficiency courses, if necessary, the CBA core courses for the sophomore year, and the University's General Education program. Discuss your study abroad plan with your faculty advisor, and prepare to submit your plan to the International Business Advisory Committee (IBAC) for approval. Prior approval of your study abroad, by this committee, is required. Your advisor will guide this process. Apply for admission to the business program if you will meet the admission requirements at the end of this second year. Declare your second business major at the Dean's Office, 223 Wimberly, if you have not already done so.
Most IB majors study abroad during this year, and start the advanced business core and major requirements. Your faculty advisor will assist with this selection. In addition to your second business major, and CBA core courses, you might begin some of the IB major specific requirements this year, including ECO 340 (fall semester, usually) and MGT 405 (spring semester, usually). Depending upon your other major and core requirements, you may complete other IB major requirements this year, though most will be included in the senior year.
Complete your remaining CBA core and majors.
