Registration
Advising in the Freshman Year
Course selection for business majors is somewhat cut and dried for
the first two years, because of the pre-business courses that must be completed for
admission to the program. Students will not have a wide range of choices to make the first
year.
First Semester
All new freshmen are advised during special days in the summer. Generally, new freshmen are advised to include
the following courses in their first schedule:
ECO 110 or 120
ENG 110 or CST 110
Math (dependent upon placement)
and C-S103 & 104
and one or two other general education requirements; foreign language, etc.
Second Semester
Students are encouraged to continue to complete business core and
general education courses. Typically, schedules will include:
ECO 110 or 120
ENG or CST 110
Math and/or computer science
(Accountancy majors will usually include ACC in this semester)
one or two additional general education courses
REMINDERS....
- Grades of "C," minimum, are required in ECO 110 and 120. If students do not
expect to earn this minimum, at the time they are advance registering, they
register to repeat.
- Students who placed into remedial courses (ENG and MTH 050), must complete the
coursework in their freshman year. If they have not yet enrolled in the requirement, they
must do so for second semester. The SNAP report can verify this requirement.
- The pre-business requirements should be reviewed for completion over the next three
semesters.
- SNAP reports will identify uncompleted program requirements.

REGISTRATION ADVISING FOR THE
SOPHOMORE YEAR
First Semester
Typically, a first semester sophomores schedule will include the
following courses:
ACC 221
math course not yet completed
MGT 205 (prereq. ECO 110 or 120 and sophomore (30cr.) standing)
I-S 220 (prereq. C-S 103 & 104)
(Accountancy majors will enroll in ACC 222)
two or three other general education requirements
Reminders...
- Students not successfully completing economics courses in the freshman year should
register to repeat.
- Grades of "C" minimum are required in MGT 205, ACC 221 and 222.
- Students planning to complete minors or additional majors should begin working toward
them. Courses required in all University majors and minors are listed in the catalog.
Second Semester
Typically, a second semester sophomores schedule will include:
ACC 222 (prereq. "C" or better in ACC 221)
BUS 230 (prereq. MTH 145, C-S
103 & 104, ENG 110)
(Accountancy majors may enroll in ACC 321)
Math course, if not yet completed
other general education courses not yet completed
repeat coursework if necessary
minor/major courses outside business
Reminders...
- Review the pre-business requirements for Admission to the Business Program.
Students who will complete admission requirements during this second semester
and/or summer session must apply
for admission to the program by mid-term. Applications are obtained in the Deans
Office. Students must apply and be tentatively admissible before they may
register for 300/400 level core and major courses.
Late applications
may not be accepted.
- SNAP will identify uncompleted areas of general education and
business core.

REGISTRATION ADVISING
following admission to the business program
First Semester Junior Year
By this time, students should be eligible for admission to the Business Program,
and should have completed and submitted an application before they register.
First Semester
Typically, a first semester junior will have the following core courses
in their schedule:
MGT 308
MKT 309
FIN 355 and/or
MGT 393
SNAP reports should be checked to confirm eligibility for admission to the program.
Admission is required before enrolling in any 300/400 level business courses with the
exception of economics courses, FIN 360, Principles of Insurance, and ACC 321,
Intermediate Accounting. Applications are due by mid-semester; late applications
are not acceptable. Some students will plan to complete admission requirements during the summer session
(here or elsewhere) and will be eligible by the time the fall term begins.
They must also apply for admission by mid-semester, based on their plan for the summer term.
At the time advising for this semester takes place,
students are usually in progress in
some courses required for admission; therefore, their admission at this point is tentative
until grades have been posted. If students fail to eventually meet the admission
requirements, they are notified by the Deans Office and informed they must make
adjustments to their advance registration.
This point is also a good opportunity to check the SNAP report for two things:
- The number of general education credits completed
Students must complete at least 48 credits in the general education program.
Completing only the minimum course requirements in each category will not add to 48.
Students will usually have to complete the maximum in almost every category to meet this
requirement.
