economy, employment in
the area of
financial services
is expected to grow at
a rate outpacing that of
most,
if not all,
other sectors of the economy. The dynamic
changes within the U.S. and International Financial Marketplace have
been the primary facilitator of this unprecedented progress.
finance graduates.
The
Finance Department also offers occupational opportunities for those who
desire to specialize in the areas of insurance and
risk management. From property and liability to life
and heath insurance the department provides one of the few undergraduate
programs in the state of Wisconsin with an insurance concentration. This
curriculum prepares students for careers in personal or corporate insurance
management, or insurance sales.
Many insurance majors serve
semester internship positions with both independent and/or captive agents,
or the corporate insurance companies. These internships often result in a
full-time employment offer. A brochure with more details is available.

Financial markets are important
forums in which suppliers (investors) and users (businesses) of funds are
brought together to transfer money from the cash-rich investors to the
cash-poor firms. Stock, bond &
option
markets are the preeminent financial markets that exist in most major
economies of the world. Financial intermediaries, such
as stockbrokerages and banks, facilitate such transfers at market, or
equilibrium price. The market price is contingent upon the diversity of
dynamic economic, industry & firm conditions that exist at the time of the
exchange. Although individuals are often the original suppliers of funds to
the financial markets, their investments are frequently returned with a
reward for providing the financing and sharing in the risk of financial
insolvency.
