Allan Macpherson received his PhD. from Manchester Metropolitan University and has researched on Knowledge and growth in SMEs and organizational learning. His research projects have included a study on the evaluation of business knowledge in small firms, net work learning in SMEs and the development of learning support policy and practice for small firms. Recent Projects include an investigation an into communities of practice with a large IT services company, learning in crisis with a UK Fire and Rescue Service and the challenges of learning from events in a multi-agency network. Current research interested include the dynamic capabilities in small firms, the role of artifacts, or tools, in stimulating learning processes and practices, and learning to recover or change following crisis. Allan is a Chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and Chair of the EURAM Knowledge and Learning special interest group. He teaches classes in Management and Human Resource Development.
