Annual Goals

2002-03

1) Academic Excellence – Continuous Improvement of CBA degree programs
  1. Assurance of student learning of integrated knowledge of business for undergraduate students. Responsibility: CBA UCC.
  2. Assurance of student learning for mastery of the major, effective communication skills, behavioral skills, and problem solving skills in each program. Responsibility: Departments and International Business Advisory Committee.
  3. Determine the magnitude of student research in each program and all core courses. Responsibility: Departments, CBA UCC and CBA Graduate Committee.
  4. Evaluate adding community service as a requirement for graduation. Responsibility: Dean’s Council and CBA UCC.
  5. Determine process for assurance of student learning in CBA minors. Responsibility: Dean’s Council.
  6. Assurance of student learning for the Graduate Learning Outcomes. Responsibility: Graduate Committee and MBA Director.
  7. Evaluate existing and potential partnerships in international business. Responsibility: Departments, International Business Advisory Committee, and Dean’s Council.
  8. Continue to participate in consortium delivery of the pre-MBA program and in the development of a consortium MBA program to be delivered via the Internet. Responsibility: Departments, CBA Graduate Committee, and MBA Director.
  9. Determine feasibility of accounting accreditation. Responsibility: Accountancy Department with consultants and Dean’s Council.

 2)  Student Development – Recruitment, Retention, and Placement

  1. Establish recruiting plans for each academic program including scholarships, student orientation, and updated web pages for CBA and departments. Responsibility: Departments, MBA Director and Associate Dean.
  2. Evaluate the success of mentoring program for underrepresented student populations. Responsibility: Departments and Assistant to Dean.
  3. Determine our graduates’ perception of the quality of their career progress (5-10 years). Responsibility: Associate Dean with Career Services.
  4. Identify the educational services desired by underrepresented groups in the region. Responsibility: Business Development Center and Associate Dean.

3) Faculty Development and Composition -- Hire and retain a well-qualified and diverse faculty and provide development opportunities that enhance our faculty

  1. Evaluate departmental probationary peer review systems by interviewing all probationary faculty members. Responsibility: Associate Dean.
  2. Appoint an MBA program director and develop a hiring plan for faculty consistent with Plan 2008. Responsibility: Departments, Associate Dean and Dean.
  3. Review Scholarly Productivity Guidelines and Teaching Load Guidelines. Identify appropriate activities and determine timing of next review. Responsibility: Dean’s Council.
  4. Support development of human capital, including paper presentations and other travel, through decentralized budget. Responsibility: Departments.
  5. Use the summer faculty development fund to support specific CBA Goals. Responsibility: Dean’s Council.
  6. Create an environment that fosters a balance between professional and personal life, connect newcomers to information and services available for dual-career couples and to flexible employee benefits such as parental leaves; flexible time limits for tenure; part-time status for child bearing, child rearing and other family situations; domestic partner benefits; and child care. Responsibility: Departments and Dean’s Office.

 4) Service and College Involvement

  1. Expand the number of programs delivered to regional businesses that make use of faculty expertise. Responsibility: Business Development Center and Departments.
  2. Work with other UW-System Campuses to deliver non-credit seminars targeted to businesses and organizations. Responsibility: Business Development Center and Dean.
  3. Support regional economic development initiatives. Responsibility: Business Development Center and Dean.

 5) Advancement – Adding a Margin of Excellence

  1. Create a written advancement plan that identifies priorities for funding needs. Responsibility: Dean’s Council, Pat Stephens, and UW-L Foundation.
  2. Continue to improve communications with potential supporters. Continue the Distinguished Lecture Series and Building Bridges. Responsibility: Departments and Dean with Foundation.
