Basic Emergency Lifesaving Skills in Schools

 

BELSS is designed to increase the number of school-aged youth who are competent in safety, first aid, CPR and AED skills by training instructors and providing curriculums to promote the development of these skills. The workshops are intended for school nurses, health teachers, physical education teachers, elementary teachers, health service directors, safety/security directors, social workers, EMS personnel, and all those responsible for teaching safety, first aid, CPR and AED to school district youth and staff.

 

All participants receive:

bullet Emergency Preparedness Plan Training
bullet Planning to fit BELSS into their Comprehensive School Health Program
bullet Networking Resources
bullet Funding Opportunity Information

 

Then choose one certification:

bullet Risk Watch (PreK-8)
bullet American Red Cross FA/CPR/AED Instructor 
bullet American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED Instructor

 

Dates/Locations:

bullet November 16-17,2004 – Hotel Meade - Wisconsin Rapids
bullet January 12-13,2005 – St. Patrick’s Catholic Church - Whitewater
bullet February 9-10,2005 – CESA # 4 Education Center - West Salem                    

 

Time: 8 am – 5 pm both days (8 pm on first day for ARC Instructor)

 

Cost:  $40/individual OR $30 each for a school team of two or more from one district.

§         By Mail: Print the registration form and mail to the address listed at the bottom.

 

Credit: One or two undergraduate or graduate non-program credits are available from University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. One credit is earned by attending the workshop and describing how you intend to use what you learned; the second credit is earned by collecting and reporting data from your school, developing a grant for additional funding or another project that helps implement some dimension of a prek-12 emergency health curriculum in your district/community. Registration for credit will be held at the workshop. Payment will be collected at that time.
